"Senior," Matured," The Elderly," Advanced," Old Age"

 When you hear someone.....ANYONE say to you or a loved one: “Sorry, that is just one of the realities you are (will be) facing at your advanced age/level of maturity/ old age, etc.  ..It’s a part of getting older. You should just SLOW DOWN, REST and learn to accept/ embrace/deal with it.”  Meaning, you should accept whatever “it” is... (Fatigue, loss of mobility, leg cramps, joint stiffness, aches & pains, anxiety, brain fog/confusion, boredom depression, sleeplessness, etc.) 

 

Now at 61 myself,  I can assure you that is not “always” and most often RARELY the case at all. For over a century in the U.S., the term “Old Age”  has been and STILL is the most often mis-used, generalized and dismissive term when describing one’s chronological years, locking in specific stereo-typical conclusions for those 55+ without taking into account the actual individual including the many life nuances that are indicative to longevity because of or DESPITE chronological age.  

THE FIT 55+ TRUTH

The key is to start where you are!    Our bodies can adapt and grow stronger at any age.

MYTH: It's Just Too Late to Start

For decades the general assumption for ages 55-75+ was strength training is only for the young, and we should begin to "take it easier" to "REST" the older we become.​

Strength training at 55+ is not just beneficial—it’s essential for maintaining independence, preventing falls, and fighting age-related muscle loss. Adults lose 3-8% of muscle mass per decade after 30, with an accelerating rate after age 60.

I've had the pleasure to personally witness adults in their 60s, 70s, and even 80s make amazing strength gains within 12 weeks of total body strength training.

The key is starting with proper guidance and proper form. 

In fact NOT including strength conditioning after age 40 will often lead to weak muscles, poor coordination and balance, increased risk of falls, eventually leading to functional issues while performing routine daily activities. 

MYTH: Strength Training Is Dangerous at "My Age" 

Many 55+ adults worry that lifting weights will hurt joints or cause injuries.

 

With experienced coaching,  strength and resistance training is actually a safe, very effective protocol for joint pain and stability issues which will actually help protect your joints by building supportive muscles around them. 

Another plus: strength training reduces fracture risk by strengthening bones.
